Heat is the key to creating your waves, but it can be damaging to hair if used incorrectly. Always use a heat protectant spray before using curling irons or straighteners. Spritz your heat protectant all over your hair, from roots to ends.
Step Two: Create Sections
Depending on the thickness of your hair, you may need to section your hair into four or six segments – either top and bottom and left and right, or left and right with three sections on each side.
Ideally, beachy waves are created using a thicker curling iron. The smaller the curling iron’s barrel, the tighter the wave will be. One inch is perfect for the looser, relaxed waves this look requires.
Begin by placing a one to two inch section of hair into the clamp of the curling iron, with the clamp facing forward. Twist the iron away from your face, until the iron reaches the crown of your head. Hold for three seconds, then open the clamp and release.
Repeat on each section of your hair until all your strands are curled. Don’t touch the hot curls – this can make them loosen and flatten.
Gently brush out your waves to loosen them into the soft beachy style you’re looking for. Spraying a little holding hairspray onto your brush before doing this can help your waves to hold and last longer.

Before you go to bed, apply a little styling product to your damp hair. Hair should be damp but not wet – think loosely towelled off, not straight out of the shower. Choose a product that is designed to hydrate the hair.
Gather a section of hair (about three inches) and twist gently into a small bun. Use a bobby pin or clip to secure it in place. Once all your hair is twisted and pinned, spray over a light-hold hairspray and say goodnight! In the morning, undo your twists and gently brush out your hair.
